After living in Soppong for about 10 years my wife and I decided it was about time this town had a place for the locals and tourists as we regularly saw tourists walking up the street at night with absolutely no where to go except their guest house.

small section of the rear restaurantIn Mid 2005 we rented what was then the Provincial Electricity Authority offices a 2 story traditional shan teak building (circa 198o's which is almost antique in Soppong) and opened a small bar which was simply a brick wall with a counter placed on top and a few seats.  Getting good business we decided to splash out and buy the building and the land in mid 2007 and began turning it into a 'real bar' complete with restaurant and even a few chairs for people to sit on.  Since that time the growth in New secion of the Border Bar built 2010business has been amazing attracting mainly professional local people such as Hospital staff, Police, government workers and many aid agencies such as UNHCR Red Cross and UNICEF.

With the expansion of business we found we had to expand the premises a bit at a time and the locals are always wondering "what we are going to do next".  Most recently (February 2010) we extended the bar to the back adding a rear view balcony restaurant (no smoking area),  refurbished the main bar area and added a shiny new kitchen which we have kept as open planned, meaning you can watch your food being cooked from your seat.

We also began to extend towards the front of the building though this is currently on hold as the local road department will soon be adding new drainage to the road in front of us which could affect our building plans however, when completed (expected early 2011) we will have a 3 section bar consisting of outside (slightly under cover) sun deck and garden with an external coffee shop and pizza bar plus the inside bar area set within the main building and the non smoking rear restaurant.  Once completed it will mean we have grown to being a 10 seat spit and sawdust bar to a 120 seat multi bar mini complex.

The unique attraction of The Border Bar is we cater predominately for the Local and Thai market as they are here 365 days of the year however, during the tourist season we attract many tourists looking to eat traditional Thai food in a relaxed yet comfortable surroundings and enjoy our unique atmosphere having a cold beer with the locals.

We look forward to serving you soon!
